Introduction

This document describes the way in which Linn's networked products can be discovered and arranged into rooms with each room containing a number sources.

Discovering Sources and Rooms

Networked Linn devices all implement a service called Product. And the recommended way to discover Linn devices is to search for all devices that implement the Product service.

The Product service provides the following actions:

ActionDescription
Typeget the type of the device ('Source' or 'Preamp')
Modelget the Model ('Klimax DS', 'Sneaky Music DS', etc) of the device
Nameget the user-specifiable name for the device
SetNameset the user-speciable name for the device
Roomget the user-specifiable room in which the device is located
SetRoomset the user-specifiable room in which the device is located
Standbyget the standby state of the device
SetStandbyset the standby state of the device
SourceCountget the number of sources in the device
SourceIndexget the currently selected source index (0 <= source index < source count)
SetSourceIndexset the currently selected source index (0 <= source index < source count)
SourceTypeget the type of the source given a specified source index

Normally the first thing that needs to be established is the Type. Networked Linn devices are of either 'Source' type or 'Preamp' type.

And the next thing to establish is the Room in which the device is located.

In a properly configured home, each Room contains one Preamp device and any number of Source devices.

Preamp Devices

Devices whose Product service report a Type of 'Preamp' also implement the Preamp service. Using the Preamp service, the volume in the Room can be controlled.
