What is a skin?

Skins are a collection of XML files and associated bitmaps, which define the look of Kinsky.

A skin only affects the way the UI looks, it does not effect the interaction model of Kinsky.

How do I get started?

There are two approaches to skinning Kinsky,

  1. Replace the graphics with new graphics
  2. Replace the layout and the graphics

The first approach is the simplest and quickest way to change the way Kinsky looks. The second approach will require a more through understanding of how Kinsky's skinning engine works, as it requires changes to the XML layout files (not just the graphics they reference).

The use of an image manipulation program, e.g.  GIMP, will be required to produce the graphics and the second method will require KinskyEd to generate the layouts.
