FAQ

I am running on a computer with a wired and a wireless adapter and Kinsky is not operating as expected

If your computer has multiple adapters enabled at the same time you will need to supply Kinsky with the interface to operate on. You can do this by supplying the command line parameter -i or --interface and the IP address of the network card you wish to use, e.g. to use the NIC assigned the IP address 10.2.1.10 you would use the command line,

Kinsky.exe -i 10.2.1.10

I am running on a touch screen UMPC and it does not show scrollbars like on my PC

Kinsky has two skin variants, one for touch screen devices and another for desktop/laptop computers. You can override the automatically selected skin by supplying the command line parameters --tcache and --pcache, e.g. to use the 800x480 laptop skin you would use the command line,

Kinsky.exe --pcache Skins/Klimax/800x480/Laptop --tcache Skins/Klimax/800x480

Why does Kinsky take up the entire screen on my UMPC but not on my PC?

Kinsky was designed to be used on a touch screen UMPC. These devices have native screen resolutions of 800x480 and 1024x600.

Kinsky detects your current screen resolution and, if it matches either 800x480 or 1024x600, Kinsky will automatically choose the Touchscreen skin for your resolution and run in fullscreen mode.

If your current screen resolution does not match either 800x480 or 1024x600, Kinsky will choose the 800x480 Laptop skin and run in windowed mode.

You can override Kinsky's auto detection system by supplying the command line parameters --tcache and --pcache. Kinsky is distributed with 4 different skins, tabularised below,

Skin Command line parameters
800x480 Touchscreen --pcache Skins/Klimax/?800x480/Touchscreen --tcache Skins/Klimax/?800x480
800x480 Laptop --pcache Skins/Klimax/?800x480/Laptop --tcache Skins/Klimax/?800x480
1024x600 Touchscreen --pcache Skins/Klimax/?1024x600/Touchscreen --tcache Skins/Klimax/?1024x600
1024x600 Laptop --pcache Skins/Klimax/?1024x600/Laptop --tcache Skins/Klimax/?1024x600

Examples of how to apply these options can be seen below...

When I run Kinsky on my PC it runs fullscreen, but I have no mouse cursor

As mentioned above, Kinsky was designed for touch screen UMPCs. The auto detection system assumes that if your screen resolution matches either 800x480 or 1024x600 you are running on a touch screen UMPC. You can force the mouse cursor to be displayed in fullscreen mode using the command line parameter --mouse , e.g.

Kinsky.exe --mouse

Do I really need to open a command prompt box everytime to supply these command line options?

On Windows the example command lines can be entered into the "Kinsky Properties | Shortcut" dialog box that is accessable by right clicking on the appropriate shortcut and selecting "Properties"
